Kittens and little miss

  1. Some of you might know this, but we returned from Burning Man (yes, I am STILL working on a gallery of those pictures to put up) to the literal caterwauling of 6 teeny kittens. It seems their feral mama either abandoned them or, more likely, met an untimely end. So what could we do but feed them from bottles 3 OR 4 TIMES A DAY. They are now 10 or 11 weeks old and very healthy, although one disappeared in the middle of the night. Last week, Nathan and Carly took one (Jacks) and her sweet sister and her roommate from New York took another (Piju). Then Julie from work took the runt (Jeffy). It seems as of we are keeping the last 2. Poor kitties, they have Zolie to deal with! We just shout “run!” to them everytime she spies them and starts squealing and running their way.

The 2 we have, we’re working on names

Halloween!

Just about the best holiday ever, Halloween is. As we have done for the past 4 years, Jon and the crew of decorators created a haunted front steps for the trick or treaters to weave their way through. This year we had the Alpha Fox and Zolander and one of Jon’s Defender Array flame-poofers along with the crazy lights, smoke machine, and skeletons that rise up and down. It got so crowded at one point there was a line on the street. Shay and Chris came over with Tage in a firefighter’s outfit and real fire extinguisher; and Keith and Merileen brought over Karydis in a snow leopard costume that looked very familiar. Jon was a space ape courtesy of Kimric, I was the thrown together ghost of Marie Antoinette, and little miss Zolie was my little goth rag doll. I made the yard wig and sewed it to a hat and made her dress out of an old t-shirt. This is a great way for us to have a lot of fun while handing out candy. The pictures of course.

CBA Oktoberfest

Jon has been attending California Blacksmith Association events for quite a number of years. His favorite has always been the annual Oktoberfest at Fritz Hagist’s property in Cazadero. For those that attended, this is the same beautiful property that we had our wedding at. It is a little colder and much more populated by bearded blacksmiths, but this event is so friendly and nice. And how lucky are we to visit our wedding site every year. We camped in our vintage trailer with Zolie; she believes it is her own little house. All the other attendees were wonderful to her and we had a great time. Here are a few photos.

How Berkeley Can YOU Be?

This annual parade happened again September 30th, and we took the Alpha Fox through the Art Car Fest portion of the parade for the third time. Jason, Shannon, and Xinna joined us on their art car named “The Bomb”. My parents joined us in the newly created trailer, the “Zolander”. Sadly, this was a tamer parade this year. Berkeley said “No fire!” Boo. But it was a beautiful day and they had a decent crowd turn out to cheer the Alpha Fox on. And the Art Car Fest contingent was even larger. You can see photos here.

Weekend with Grandma and Grandpa at the Pumpkin Patch

We needed a pumpkin for our annual Halloween fiasco festivities, so I thought a pumpkin patch would be fun for my punkin’. Grandma and Grandpa took us to Alden Lane Nursery for their pumpkin patch and more. Everyone had a great time on a beautiful day. Zolie especially as she ran through the tiny maze and danced to the Bear Bones Trio band. Here are more photos.

Camping at Jason, Shannon, and Xinnia’s

The weekend after the 4th of July, we went to Xinnia’s second birthday party that was also a campout at their beautiful place in Marshall. It was a lot of fun. We took our new-to-us 1972 camper trailer that had just been painted buttercream yellow and white. Camping with us were Merrilee, Keith, and Karydis; and Rich and Kim. Zolie loved the wide open spaces and the three girls had fun with Xinnia as hostess. Shannon, as usual, was the hostess with the mostess.

Here are some pix

Some 4th of July Photos

She had a due date of July 6th, but we knew she would be early. Jon kept saying she would be our 4th of July baby, “then she would think all the fireworks were for her!” Oakland didn’t have a show this year, but there is an excellent viewing spot near my parents house from a hill. You can actually see two and sometimes three city’s fireworks from there. Here are some photos from when we went to visit grandma and grandpa and watch the fireworks in San Ramon.

Zolie loves Todd Blair

Our friend and Jon’s long-time SRL collaborator was critically injured after the SRL show when we were all in Amsterdam. He is still in serious condition in a hospital in the Netherlands. Todd is a wonderful person, so please send healing thoughts, prayers, whatever moves you to help him come out of his coma. If you would like to keep up with the news of Todd, his wonderful partner Alex, Amy, and others continue to update a blog about his progress.

You can view it here.

Her first birthday

June 30th, 2007. A fabulous day. Friends, cupcakes, beautiful weather, and a happy little girl. She napped through the first hour, but then made a grand entrance to the crowd! We had hot dogs and Zolie had her first frosted cupcake, she was fine with a few nibbles. Everyone sang Happy Birthday while she beamed; she seems to believe that all parties are for her anyway. Within 2 days she was walking like an expert.
